What is the Sports Premium?

 

The PE and Sport Premium is ring-fenced government funding for primary schools in Lancashire and across England, designed to improve the quality of PE, physical activity, and sport. It enables schools to enhance curriculum delivery, increase extracurricular opportunities, and provide staff training, aiming to embed healthy, active lifestyles from a young age.

 

Purpose of funding

When planning how to spend the Sports Premium, schools must consider the five key areas of focus:

  1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy, active lifestyles.
  2. The profile of P.E. and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement.
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching P.E. and sport.
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport.
